Over the next few weeks, CardinalsFarm will bring you an Ultimate Depth Chart for each position. We will run through the players that play that position on every level of the system. These are players that are currently on major and minor league rosters. We will rank them based on current production and future production with each getting 50%.

Second base is one of the deepest positions on the field and in the farm. While there may not be a superstar on this list (how many are there really?), there are several potential quality major league players. The Cardinals will have solid starters at almost every level of the system this year. Lets take a look at a couple of the players who could make an impact at the major league level.

Some may have issue with me ranking Kolten Wong as the organization’s best second baseman. While I understand that Wong may not be the best player at the position now, he has the brightest future. If we combine his current skills and future ability, Wong ranks above both Descalso and Carpenter.

Breyvic Valera and Starlin Rodriguez are intriguing prospects. I believe that Valera has a chance to be a top 10 prospect in 2014 and Rodriguez is rising pretty quickly through the system. Valera has a greater ability to play multiple positions so that might be where his value is.  If these players stay at second base they are obviously position blocked by Kolten Wong.
